Under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse, a LP! N in a Clinical Setting participates in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of delivery of care. Units using the "medical model", patient assessments, plan of care and discharge plan are performed by a physician or physician extender. Under this model, the incumbent assists the Physician in providing prescribed care or treatment to the patient.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the physician in providing care to patients and families incorporating age related and developmental needs.
Participates in meeting the educational needs of the patient/family
Participates in providing discharge instructions as delegated by the MD.
Maintains professional development.
Participates in Children's clinical shared governance initiatives as indicated.
Supports the performance improvement process for the department.
Assist in maintaining the departmental budget within the establish! ed fiscal guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited LPN program is required.
Must have a current LPN license in the state of Georgia.
Must have satisfactorily completed the Children's IV medication competency check.
Two years previous experience in the health care setting is required.
Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of date of hire.
Special Note:
The LPN may not perform the following tasks:
Documentation of the initial inpatient admission assessment
Initiation of the administration of blood products, unsupervised
Initiate chemotherapy infusions or administer IV push chemotherapy
Complete the initial assessment for restraints
Unsupervised administration of code resuscitation drugs by IV push
