A Nutritionist 2 participates as a member of the Inter-Disciplinary Patient Care Team to provide nutritional services and education to meet the needs of identified patient population within! the scope of the medical center's mission and values.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Determines nutritional assessment using age and developmentally appropriate standards.
Plans the delivery of medical nutritional therapy.
Evaluates response to medical nutritional therapy and determines change.
Instructs patient and family related to nutritional therapy which incorporates age appropriate developmental standards and advises groups related to nutritional therapy and community nutrition.
Implements departmental standards for documenting all aspects of work related activities.
Participates as member of interdisciplinary team.
Directs and evaluates Diet Technicians, Diet Clerks and dietetic interns/and students.
Plans and initiates professional development responsibilities.
Analyzes, evaluates and participates in clinical research.
Directs training of clinical staff.!
Performs other responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition, medical dietetics, or similar program is required.
A dietetic internship in an acute care setting, coordinated undergraduate or similar American Dietetic Association approved program is required.
Registration with Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed in the state of Georgia (within 3 months of hire) is required.
Three or more years pediatric experience in acute care and ambulatory settings with nutrition support responsibilities OR a Masters degree and two years pediatric clinical experience as above, after registration, is required.
Experience with pediatric populations from birth through adolescence is required.
Certification as CNSC, CSP, or Certified Lactation Consultant is required. However, three years documented experience in neonatal nutrition, pediatric renal nutrition, or pediatric oncology nutrition may be substituted for a cert! ification, since there are no recognized pediatric subspecialty examinations in these areas.
Clinical practice requirements (four of the following required):
Principal presenter at professional grand rounds or local/national conference
Precept/mentor clinical nutritionist level I, experienced in orientation of a new dietitian and/or experienced as a preceptor for intern or other student
Published research or review article a minimum of one publication every 4 years
Masters degree in nutrition/dietetics or related field (unless used as basic qualification above)
Experienced in presenting core lectures or pediatric nutrition presentations (3 or more per year) and/or nutrition education resource development
A specialty certification (unless used as a basic qualification above)
Participate in community outreach (family/parent education seminars or lectures) in clinical area. (Note: activities done within th! e scope of Community Health Development may not be included here.)
