POSITION PURPOSE
The University of Washington’s Department of Geography has been consistently ranked as one of the top ten geography programs in the United States for the last fifty years. We currently have approximately 400 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students pursuing M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. Our degree programs emphasize rigorous theoretical and empirical study of real-world problems. Our students are deeply engaged in community service through internships, service learning, and senior projects that center questions of environmental and
social justice. Our faculty are involved in research projects covering a wide range of inquiry and are well-regarded for their teaching and research excellence.
The department seeks a dynamic and innovative 50% time academic advisor to work with our diverse community of current and
prospective students in the geography majors and minor. The principal tasks of the position are to advise undergraduate students and position them for success in their academic and career pursuits. Reports to Director of Academic Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Advising (70%)
underrepresented minority (URM), undocumented, or first-generation.
Programming (10%)
Outreach & Collaboration: (10%)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors’ Degree AND a minimum of two years of relevant student services experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
