Administers life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting as authorized and directed by physician. Conducts advanced life support skills as allowed by th! e local, state and federal protocols and assists in the delivery of seriously ill or injured patients to appropriate medical facility personnel. Provides basic information relative to identification and condition of patient. Must use sound judgment in the analysis of emergency and non-emergency situations and react calmly and quickly under those circumstances.

Initiates patient treatment and care utilizing initial protocol treatment based on patient condition. Conducts basic and advanced life support skills including but not limited to: bleeding control, shock stabilization and treatment, emergenc! y childbirth, splinting of fractures, airway control, assessin! g vital signs, spinal immobilization, lifting and moving patients, endotracheal intubation, defibrillation and cardio version and external pacing, I.V. administration, and administration of intermediate and advanced medications.
Responsible for safety decisions involving the patient and emergency vehicle; whether or not additional equipment should be needed and utilized; in triage, determines transport needs of patients and sets priorities.
Drives an emergency vehicle to and from calls to transport patient(s) in a safe and prudent manner using the most efficient route to ensure the quickest response times.
Assists in carrying patient(s) by stretcher or other device to emergency vehicle and secures patient inside the vehicle choosing the safest means of transport.
Obtains and preserves where possible samples of substances to assist hospital personnel in patient diagnosis and treatment.
Observes and keeps records regarding symptoms! of patients.
Communicates information to other members of the healthcare profession, patients, family members, and other responders as necessary and appropriate.
Complies with all current policies and procedures.
Accurately and completely documents all information required by Lifeguard Ambulance, the local and state medical control, and the Ambulance Run Ticket or Patient Refusal form.
Completes and submits all other documentation (i.e. Daily Check Sheet) as established by local operations procedures.
Communicates any possible delays, customer service issues, supply shortages, equipment malfunctions and etc. to supervisor in a timely manner.
Ensures follow up with customers as appropriate to gain feedback on services provided, seeking opportunities for process improvement.
Inspects, safely operates, and maintains all equipment, supplies, and tools to meet standards set by Lifeguard Ambulance, local state, and l! ocal medical control. Requisitions and restocks supplies, material, and! equipment.
Checks emergency vehicle regularly to ensure vehicle is in good operating condition throughout shift.
Cleans and maintains the cleanliness of Lifeguard Ambulance property, including but not limited to its vehicles, equipment, buildings, and surrounding area(s).
Maintains a safe and healthy workplace as per the standards set forth by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Lifeguard Ambulance, and Lifeguard Ambulance SOG's.
Stays current with leading industry practices/knowledge base.
Maintains all required licenses and certifications by attending courses provided by local operation and medical community to obtain CEU's and CEC's.
Provides supervisor with documentation of current certifications and training documentation information for training file,
Attends all required staff meetings.
Remains aware of all policy changes and informational postings throughout the operation ! and by engaging with leadership staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years experience in an EMS setting preferred.
Combination of education and experience considered.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS
Current EMT-Paramedic License.
ACLS certification.
BTLS, PHTLS, or ITLS required.
PEPP, PALS, or other equivalent pediatric course.
Valid state drivers' license with proper endorsements, four years of licensed and unsupervised driving experience, and a driving record that meets the approval of Lifeguard's Auto Insurance Policy Carrier.
EVOC or equal Defensive Driving certification.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS & DIRECTION/GUIDANCE
This position is directly supervised by the Assistant Supervisors, Operations Supervisors, and Operations Manager.
This position provides direction and guidance to a! ssigned EMT crewmembers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
This position requires mostly field work staffing and riding in an ambulance, involving frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, and moderate squatting, crouching, kneeling, twisting, crawling and climbing, and working in awkward positions when moving patients from all types of locations and within the emergency vehicle. It requires frequent lifting of up to 100 lbs. This position will be required to perform vario! us lifts and transfers of patients who may require the use of one or mo! re of the following items: stretcher or backboard, stair chair, neonate isolet, and possibly a two person manual transfer. This position will require partnering with another EMT to lift, carry, push, pull, maneuver, balance and transfer from one surface to another a body weight of up to 300lbs, and additional equipment weight. This position requires manual dexterity of frequent simple and power grasping of both hands, moderate use of fine manipulation with both hands, and frequent pushing and pulling and reaching above and below shoulder level. This position also requires frequent use of foot controls when driving the emergency vehicle, utilizing stretchers, or operating other medical equipment with foot controls.
Requires ability to identify and distinguish colors, clear vision at 20 inches or less (close vision) and clear vision at 20 feet or more (distant vision), peripheral and depth vision, as well as ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action for responding to calls, treatment and transportation of patients, and interaction with family members, facility personnel, and others. Must be able to handle novel and diverse work problems on a daily basis, including high pressure trauma scenes. Personal maturity and sound judgment are important attributes. Must be able to relate, communicate and interact with people at all levels within the Company and at customer facilities, as well as with people of diverse backgrounds, age levels ranging from infant to senior, disparate levels of comprehension, and potentially dealing with confused and agitated patients or family members. TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position requires driving an emergency vehicle throughout shifts of varying durat! ions (up to 24 hours), use of stretchers, ventilators and other medical! equipment; walking on uneven or slippery ground depending on the location in which the transport occurs; exposure to red lights and sirens on ambulance and other emergency responder vehicles; exposure to various weather conditions, day and evening shifts; potential exposure to dust, gas, fumes or chemicals (e.g. idling ambulances, responding to vehicle accidents); working at heights and/or in confined spaces (depending on the call); and potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens, known and unknown medical conditions (protective materials are provided and precautions are required).
