Job Summary

Provides delivery of quality occupational therapy services to patients of all ages (as determined by competency ! check off) -neonate only with special training, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Delegates and supervises the provision of cross-trainable care within scope of licensure. Documents care provided. Enters daily treatment charges using computer system. Coordinates care with other services/departments to provide total patient care throughout the continuum. Assists customers in meeting their needs. Serves as a team member on a specialty care team and/or on an interdisciplinary care team as assigned. Assists with improvement, development and promotion of services. Accountability is measured through direct observation, productivity reports, performance appraisal, customer service reports, participation in task force, performance improvement and patient safety activities, Care Line/QARM reports, and peer review.

Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g. age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role. !

Qualifications Required

Education: Must hold a Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited program of occupational therapy.

Certification in the use of modalities is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:
Must hold a current license or be approved for a temporary license from the Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy. Certification in American Heart Association BLS every two years is required. National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy is preferred. Certification in lymphedema is preferred. Certification in sensory integrative praxis testing is preferred.

Experience:
New graduate

Knowledge, skills, abilities:
Work requires a knowledge of occupational therapy modalities and procedures as applicable for treating patients of all ages with various disabilities.

Must have a high level of interpersonal skills in order to communicate verbally and in writing with patients, physicians, visitors, co-workers and other ho! spital personnel.

Must possess high level of interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with sick and/or irritable patients in order to gain their cooperation and allay apprehension. Must be able to provide effective instructions to patient and families.

Must have high level of analytical ability necessary to assess patient needs, develop treatment programs, develop tasks appropriately and organize and prioritize daily treatments while utilizing supportive personnel.

Must possess analytical ability and knowledge of the principals, methods, materials and equipment used in the practice of occupational therapy.

Must have a basic knowledge of management skills sufficient to effectively supervise team personnel when acting as team leader.

Must have knowledge of safety and current infection control policies and procedures at UH.

Work requires one to six months orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with area! specific policies, procedures, principles and methods of treatment com! patible with departmental philosophy.

Work requires the ability to handle a variety of duties which may be interrupted and changed by immediate circumstances which may produce a high level of stress and mental fatigue.

Physical Demands

Must have physical strength and endurance in order to daily treat an acceptable load of patients of all ages with various physical disabilities and functional levels which may require positioning, lifting, transferring or transporting. Knowledge of good body mechanics is required. Must have auditory, tactile and olfactory senses to assess patients.

Work requires motor coordination and considerable dexterity necessary to manipulate patients, tools and materials.

Work requires spatial and form perception necessary to visualize shapes, patterns and other pertinent details in the construction of orthotic and adaptive equipment and color discrimination necessary when using colored materials.
