Provides direct health care services for students, provides instruction and training for school staff, and promotes health education and disease prevention for students an! d their families. Implements the goals and objectives of the Bibb County BOE Health program.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school and be licensed as a professional registered nurse by the State of Georgia.
2. Bachelors' degree preferred.
3. Must have at least one (1) year of experience in pediatric or emergency nursing.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
1. Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, which includes biological, social, and behavioral sciences.
2. Knowledge of available social and medical resources for the care and treatment of children.
3. Working knowledge of standard nursing practice of children and adolescents.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and their families, and with other school personnel.
5. Ability to teach and instruct students and their families in health related topics. 6. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both ora! lly and in writing.
7. Ability to instruct lay persons in effective health care.
8. Ability to prepare and conduct classes, workshops and programs designed to safeguard the health of children.
9. Ability to apply nursing techniques to situations encountered in school environment.
10. Ability to keep records and to prepare reports.
11. Ability to work with injured, ill and handicapped children.
12. Ability to stand, walk, grasp, handle, grip, lift (up to 20 pounds).
13. Ability to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, reach (full range up to 180 degrees), kneel, push, pull and lift (11 to 20 pounds).
14. Ability to see with both near and far visual acuity, depth perception and field of vision.
15. Good communication skills.
16. Skill in the care and use of the standard nursing and medical equipment.
17. Must be technologically adept and literate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans school health program in cooperation wit! h the health care community and administrative school personnel.
2. Plans, implements and assesses a health education program for students and their families.
3. Performs medical examinations to evaluate the health status of students and assess the progress of the health education program.
4. Instructs classes in subjects related to various health education topics.
5. Conducts workshops and programs for parents related to various health education topics.
6. Provides first-aid, administers medications and maintains health records of students.
7. Cooperates and assists school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of school children.
8. Counsels students in good health habits.
9. Works with community agencies in planning facilities to meet needs of children outside school situation.
10. Assists in program for care of handicapped children.
11. Maintains records of work performed as required.
12. Se! rves as a resource person for teachers and parents on issues related to! health education.
13. Responds to emergency medical situations as indicated and provides appropriate nursing and medical care until EMS responders arrive on the scene.
14. Works as part of the school emergency response team and shares information with administration and evaluation teams.
15. Reviews charts, provides assistance and responds to daily treatments and/or interventions.
16. Performs related duties as required or assigned by supervisors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some physical activity, capable of lifting 20 lbs.

SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
1. 190 day work year; 8 hours per day
2. Salary: $30,780.00 - $44,855.20 (placement on salary schedule based on years of allowed related experience). The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of an employee's tenure. The maximum salary listed is not a potential starting salary for an external candidate.
3. Excellent benefits package (inclu! ding health insurance; dental and life insurance; employee assistance program); personal and sick leave; membership in Teachers' Retirement System.
