A Staff Nurse - Expert participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team in assessing, pl! anning, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive patient care services.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Behaviors

50% of time is de! dicated to bedside care.

Collaborates and consults with physicians and interdisciplinary team regarding clinical outcomes across departments, campuses, or system.

Assumes ownership of patient outcomes by acting as communication link and consultant for other caregivers.

Coaches staff in time management and prioritization.

Acts as consultant to staff and other disciplines, advocating for the patient.

Coaches others in clinical decision-making, patient/family education, and problem solving.

Initiates new concepts and approaches to clinical care.

Facilitates communication and promotes cohesive behavior among team members.

Professional Development Behaviors

Coordinates and participates in unit, multi-department, or campus educational process in conjunction with educator, manager, and other Experts.

75% attendance at staff meetings as applicable. Participates in developing and sharing conten! t for staff meetings.

Completes mandatory education requirements as defined by unit and system by due date and encourages staff to do same.

Works to develop/teach unit specific advanced competencies.

Attends educational opportunities of minimum 24 hours job related education per year.

Actively participates in outside professional organization to advance patient care and for the nursing profession.

May provide formal presentation or poster at local or national venues.

Assists in creation of strategic learning plan for department and coordinates education delivery in conjunction with educator and manager.

25% of time dedicated to formal teaching.

25% of time dedicated to conducting research.

Participates in development and revision of policies.

Leadership Behaviors

Assists in developing and implementing department and/or campus/system customer service initiatives.

Commu! nicates and supports staff in maintaining the budget as it relates to s! taff and material resources.

Coordinates the interdisciplinary team for resolution of issues as needed.

Must be an active member of system based CHOICE council, unit council, or task force, and serve as a role model for others in their support of CHOICE.

Resolves complex situations of conflict involving patients, families, and staff and seeks appropriate resources when necessary.

Provides oversight of patient care delivered by Licensed Practical Nurses on the unit.

Coaches staff in effective communication techniques, conflict and crisis resolution, and team behaviors.

Anticipates, intervenes, and directs others in evaluating and managing emergent situations while utilizing appropriate resources.

Performs as a proficient charge nurse, team leader, and/or preceptor. Acts as unit leader in absence of Manager as needed.

Actively fosters growth and development of leadership skills in others.

Partici! pates in multi-department, campus, and/or system task forces or committees.

Works with system and department leadership, educators, and other Experts to review and revise campus and system orientation and education programs as necessitated by clinical and regulatory changes.

Provides oversight of patient care delivered by Licensed Practical Nurses on the unit.

Quality and Evidence Based Practice Behaviors

Develops and participates in performance improvement initiatives for unit, multi-departments, campuses, and/or system to effectively evaluate outcomes.

Actively participates and coaches others in Evidence Based Practice and research through encouraging inquiry, performing literature searches and sharing results.

Teach one EBP course in conjunction with Research department.

Serves as a consultant to others for department and system policies and demonstrates critical thinking skills founded on Evidence Based Prac! tice.

Facilitates practice changes through appropriate channel! s.

Assists and monitors compliance with The Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs).

Evaluates and develops tools to improve the process of patient care delivery within the unit, multi-department, campuses and/or system.

Develops and implements evidence based research projects. May be lead principal investigator

Understands and guides others in Institutional Review Board (IRB) process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Current license in the state of Georgia as an Advance Practice Nurse or Registered Nurse.

Certification in related specialty required within one year of hire.

Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in practice related to specialty.

Master’s Degree in nursing or healthcare program.

Minimum 5 year pediatric clinical experience or related experience.

Demonstrated computer presentation skills as well as basic database creation and use.

PAL! S within one year of hire date.

Life support instructor status

BLS certification is required

Human Subject Certification required

Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skills Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of date of hire.
