POSITION SUMMARYManages and coordinates assigned unit(s) in the provision of nursing care to neonates/infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patient population for which educational background has provided necessary administrative and leadership skills in the Intensive Care Unit and Dialysis contract services. Assesses quality of care, utilization of nursing process, adherence to patient rights, selection of technology and evaluation of nursing resources. Develops and utilizes patient care processes that support nursing care; adheres and supports long range plans and development of staff. Utilizes effective communication skills and interacts with others in a courteous manner.

Selects and trains employees, assures educational opportunities, participates in committees, and maintains annual competencies. Provides/coordinates in-services for staff, accepts and performs administrative duties, prepares budgeting needs and evaluates employees. Participates in performance improvement activities to assure continuous quality improvement. Coordinates systems related to acute stroke care delivery.

Knowledgeable of current Clinical Practice Guidelines related to stroke care. Serves as facilitator for Stroke Team, and assists Physician Champion/ Leader in leading improvement activities. Acts as clinical liaison between physicians, department directors and staff related to stroke care delivery. Monitors quality of care issues through team activities.

Assists with education of staff related to acute stroke care. Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers, and all other customers. Promotes a supportive, teamwork-oriented environment and maintains all safety standards. Fulfills departmental responsibilities with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of CMC.PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONSDemonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the Competency Validation Checklist.

Meets mutually agreed upon performance objectives as outlined in the Performance Management Plan. WORK ENVIRONMENTRegularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases. Direct contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to irregular work hours and stress due to multiple phone calls and inquiries from doctors, patients/families, employees.

Must be flexible, work at a fast pace and manage several projects at a time. Interdisciplinary contact with other health care disciplines/professionals. Handle emergency or crisis situations professionally, adapt to change as needed. Flexible in meeting the needs of the unit, i.e.

change in assignments or work schedule. PHYSICAL ABILITIESProlonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking. Must be able to utilize proper body mechanics while moving and lifting patients or objects. Frequently lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients.

Frequently moves supplies and equipment requiring moderate physical effort to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds: employee is required to obtain assistance for lifting more than 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and mobility needed for considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or crouching. Able to reach above shoulders without difficulty. Able to perform several tasks simultaneously.

Must be able to work independentlyPOSITION QUALIFICATIONSGraduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current GA RN license.BSN degree preferred. Basic Healthcare Provider (BLS) and ACLS required within 90 days of hire.CCRN preferred.Previous 5 years nursing experience, at least 3 years progressive leadership experience preferred.
