POSITION SUMMARYThe Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) performs direct patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation of all assigned patients, infancy through life span. Emergency Room Nurses are responsible for working as a team with other emergency response personnel in all disciplines of emergency care to deliver high quality care in a fast paced setting. Responsible for triaging patients, responding timely and making accurate decisions in order to provide stabilizing care to individuals in a crisis situation. Must be able to respond to emergency situations while assuring open communication with patients and their families, as well as other emergency medical professionals to provide and ensure proper and accurate medical therapeutic intervention.
Responsible for meeting the established policies/standards of practice for this facility. Identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patients - plans and carries out individualized patient care. Daily use of analytical and decision-making skills. Participates in Performance Improvement activities to assure continuous Quality Improvement.
Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and all other customers. Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of CMC. The Monitor Tech observes Behavioral Health patients via a camera monitor to ensure the safety of the patient, staff and identifies changes in behavior.
The Sitter has direct observation of the patient (either in the patient room or in the doorway based upon physician ordered levels) to ensure the safety of the patient, staff and identifies changes in behavior.PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONSDemonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the Competency Validation Checklist. Understands focus of position and the role does not allow multi-tasking (reading, talking on the phone, unless communication for patient support). Meets mutually agreed upon performance objectives as outlined on the Performance Management Plan. WORK ENVIRONMENTRegularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases.
Direct contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to irregular work hours and stress due to multiple phone calls and inquiries from doctors, managers and families. Must be flexible, work at a fast pace and manage several projects at a time. Interdisciplinary contact with other health care disciplines/professionals.
Handles emergency or crisis situations professionally, adapting to change as needed. Flexible in meeting the needs of the unit, i.e. change in assignments or work schedule. During low census, may be required to leave early, rotate days off or float to other departments.PHYSICAL ABILITIESProlonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking.
Must be able to utilize proper body mechanics while moving and lifting patients or objects. Frequently lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients. Frequently moves supplies and equipment requiring moderate physical effort to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds: employee is required to obtain assistance for lifting more than 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and mobility needed for considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or crouching.
Able to reach above shoulders without difficulty. Able to perform several tasks simultaneously. REPORTS TOAdministrative Supervisor or Director of Emergency ServicesSUPERVISESLPN, Unit Secretary, EMT-P/EMT, PCT DEGREE OF SUPERVISION REQUIREDMinimal. Must be able to work independently.Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current GA RN license.Basic Healthcare Provider (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification required within 90 days of hire or promotion.
Previous ED/Critical Care experience preferred. Completion of the Behavioral Health competency checklist. This staff will also complete CPI training within 30 days of assign responsibilities.
