DUTIES:
You will respond on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, and sometimes encounter situations which may be life threatening. Upon arrival at the scene, make an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and select from a variety of prescribed protocols, as appropriate; proceed to provide the treatment as prescribed in the protocol. Conduct a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and search for medical alert symbols. Determine, with due regard to the patient's condition, if and how he can be moved and to which medical facility he should be transported. Prioritize treatments for patient having multiple problems and employ a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods, and equipment to the appropriate medical facility.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum Qualifications:
Specialized Experience: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-06) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which involves providing advanced emergency medicine techniques to determine, based on the diagnosis of the patient, the approach or combination of approaches, that will most effectively sustaining the patient's life. Candidates must demonstrate experience performing patient examinations, operating emergency and patient transport vehicles, and recognizing proper diagnostic signs such as pulse, respiration, blood pressure, temperature, skin color, etc.
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience: I have at least one full year of graduate-level education from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position. Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some but not all of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you do have. To do so, compute the percentage of your requirements met, the sum of which must equal at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages.)
Certification Requirement: This position requires an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification in a state, territory or D.C. in which emergency responses are required OR certification through the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Personnel security investigation required. A medical examination is required prior to employment. Hepatitis B immunization is required (direct patient contact). This position is covered by the Drug Abuse Testing Program. Applicant drug testing and random drug testing will be required. Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccinations required annually. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Direct Deposit of pay is required. One year trial/probationary period may be required. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. If selected, official college or university transcripts must be submitted. If selected, candidate must provide documents for credentialing. Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS), Advance Cardiac Life Support (ALCS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Training and Certification. You may claim Military Spouse Preference. Moving expenses will not be paid. Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license. You must obtain and maintain an accident avoidance course card. Business travel of 5% annually may be required This position requires shift work at Fort Stewart, Wright Army Airfield and Hunter Army Airfield on a rotation basis to include days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
